2026 LYRICAL FLUTE

INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

2026 SET REPERTOIRE

2 September 2026 to 31 October 2026

Each entrant may enter a maximum of 3 sections (any combination of Age Championship, Unaccompanied Solo, Creative Presentation, Ensemble Section in Duet/Trio, Ensemble Section in Flute Choir), but they must perform different music for each section.​

AGE CHAMPIONSHIPS

(Age is calculated as at 31 October 2026)

  • 10 YEARS & Under Age Championship Flute & Piano

  • 11 YEARS Age Championship Flute & Piano

  • 12 YEARS Age Championship Flute & Piano ​

  • 13 & 14 YEARS Age Championship Flute & Piano

The above age groups may choose any ONE piece WITH PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT from:

  • Lyrical Flute Miniatures – Choose one piece from the 40 pieces (easy to early intermediate)

  • Lyrical Flute Legends – Choose one piece from the 20 pieces (intermediate)

  • Lyrical Flute Encores – Choose one piece from the 18 pieces (intermediate to advanced)

  • Carmen Prelude (Bizet, arr. Karen North) – available as digital PDF and in print (advanced)

  • Or one of the named pieces in the following method books (easy to intermediate):

    • The Young Flute Player Book 1 – Choose one from: Song of Joy U10, Can Can U14, British Grenadiers U17, Bach Minuet U20

    • The Young Flute Player Book 2 – Choose one from: On Wings of Song U9, Waltz U12, Le Basque U13, March in G Major U17, Galop U20, Concert Pieces: Bach Rondeau p.68, Haydn Allegro p.72, Gossec Gavotte p.82 in D Major (not the easier version earlier in the book), The Entertainer p.83

    • The Young at Heart Flute Player – Choose one from: Song of Joy U11, Can Can U18, British Grenadiers U21, Harp of Tara U25

    • Joven Flautista – Choose one from: Himno de la alegría U10, Cancán U14, La valentía de los héroes U17, Bach Minuet U21

    • Junge Flötisten – Choose one from: Ode an die Freude L10, Can Can L14, Die British Grenadiers L17, Menuett Bach L21

    • Jovem Flautista – Choose one from: Hino da Alegria U10, Cancan U14, Marcha de “Scipio” U18, Minueto U21

    • Il Giovane Flautista – Choose one from: Inno alla Gioia L12, Can Can L17, I Granatieri Britannici L19, Minuetto Bach L24, Il Carnevale di Venezia L25

    • Młody Flecista – Choose one from: Oda do radości R12, Can Can R17, Brytyjscy grenadierzy R19, Menuet Bach R24, Karnawał wenecki R25

(U = Unit, or Unidad/Unidade in the Spanish and Portuguese editions. L and R indicate the equivalent sections in the German, Italian and Polish editions.)

  1. All Age Championships must be accompanied by piano. You may have either a live accompanist, or you may use the FREE backing tracks (available for all pieces in book collections), or mp3 tracks are also available to purchase.

  2. The piano sheet music for all The Young Flute Player books is in Book 3.

UNACCOMPANIED SOLO CHAMPIONSHIP

13 Years & Over (Age is calculated as at 31 October 2026)

 

Choose ONE piece unaccompanied from:

  • Inspiring Flute Solos – Choose one piece from the 30 pieces (intermediate to early advanced)

  1. This unaccompanied piece may be performed on C flute, piccolo, alto flute, E-flat flute or bass flute.

  2. Please read the RULES carefully before recording your piece.

CREATIVE PRESENTATION CHAMPIONSHIP

15 Years & Under (Age is calculated as at 31 October 2026)

 

Choose ONE piece from the collections below. You may perform an unaccompanied flute solo, or a work for flute and piano played with piano accompaniment.

  • Lyrical Flute Miniatures

  • Lyrical Flute Encores

  • Lyrical Flute Legends

  • Inspiring Flute Solos

  • Festive Flute Fun

The creativity of your presentation will be judged as well as the musical performance. Your presentation should reflect some aspect of the piece you are playing. You may wear a costume, use props, or add video effects, but you and your flute must be visible for the whole performance and the audio track must not be edited.

  1. Solo (unaccompanied) flute works may be performed on C flute, piccolo, alto flute, E-flat flute or bass flute. Works for flute and piano should be performed in the original key on C flute.

ENSEMBLE CHAMPIONSHIP

Open to ALL AGES

 

Choose ONE duet or trio from:

  • Inspiring Flute Duets (intermediate to advanced)

  • Nutcracker Flute Duets (arr. Karen North) – available as digital PDF and in print (easy, intermediate and early advanced)

  • Festive Flute Fun (easy to intermediate)

  • The Young Flute Player Book 4 (beginner to easy)

  • The Young Flute Player Book 5 (intermediate)

  1. To be performed as a duet, as a trio, or by a group or flute choir. You may double parts and add piccolo, alto or bass flute, but you must keep to the parts as written (parts may be transposed to suit these instruments).

  2. Please read the RULES carefully before recording your piece.

CLARINET & SAXOPHONE CHAMPIONSHIP

Open to ALL AGES

 

CLARINET:

Choose ONE piece – an unaccompanied clarinet solo, duet or trio, or a work for clarinet and piano. Select one piece from:

  • Lyrical Clarinet Legends (intermediate) – must include piano accompaniment

  • Festive Clarinet Fun (easy to intermediate)

  • The Young Clarinet Player Book 1 (beginner to easy)

  • The Young Clarinet Player Book 2 (intermediate)

SAXOPHONE:

Choose ONE piece – an unaccompanied saxophone solo, duet or trio. Select one piece from:

  • Festive Saxophone Fun (easy to intermediate)

  • The Young Saxophone Player Book 1 (beginner to easy)

  • The Young Saxophone Player Book 2 (intermediate)

Reminders of Important Points

  • All sections: original music must be used and must be visible in your video recording – show the front cover of the book at the start (digital purchasers, see point 3).

  • All books are available in print from music shops worldwide and as digital downloads from our website.

  • There is no entry fee, but EACH ENTRANT MUST HAVE THEIR OWN LEGALLY PURCHASED BOOK OR PDF FROM WHICH THEIR PERFORMANCE PIECE COMES. If the entrant is using a digital PDF, they are requested to email proof of purchase at the time of their entry (i.e. one purchase per entrant, except where siblings are sharing). NO PHOTOCOPIES ALLOWED except for page turns in longer pieces.

  • Maximum 3 sections per entrant: any combination of sections may be entered, but different music must be performed in each section. Please use a separate entry form for each section – see the RULES.
