1. Your video must be recorded in one take, with no editing or enhancements. In the Creative Presentation section the visuals may be edited, but the soundtrack must still be a single unedited take.

2. Do a sound check before you record the whole piece. Check that your instrument can be heard clearly, and that the accompaniment is neither too loud nor too soft. We sometimes receive entries where the backing track can hardly be heard. If you are using a backing track, it is fine to include the metronome count-in.

3. Make sure your camera or phone is steady and in focus. Propping it on a stable surface, or using a small tripod, gives a much better result than holding it.

4. Position your camera so that you and your instrument are well centred in the picture. If you are too close, part of your instrument or your hands may not be seen; if you are too far away, the judges will not be able to see any detail. Check also that your music stand is not blocking the view of your instrument or your hands. If you are entering an ensemble section, make sure every player is fully in the frame.

5. Landscape format is preferred for both solo and ensemble entries, as it shows you and your instrument more clearly. For the Creative Presentation, either landscape or portrait format is fine. Either format is accepted in any section.

6. Check that there is enough light in the area where you are filming. Try to avoid a bright window directly behind you, as it will put you in shadow.

7. Think about where you record, and look at what will appear in the background. A simple, uncluttered background that keeps the attention on your playing is ideal.

8. Before you start playing, say your first name and the name of your piece, and show the front cover of your book. You can also leave the front cover clearly visible on your music stand. If you would prefer not to speak on the video, please send a separate photo of yourself with your book. If you have purchased a digital PDF, you do not need to show the cover, but please send a copy of your purchase invoice.

9. Please keep your spoken introduction short. Do not give extra information: we do not need to know your country or your age, and there is no need to introduce your accompanist. These are lovely at a studio concert, but the judges have a great many videos to watch and need a brief introduction.

10. You are not judged on what you wear, but dressing neatly shows that you have taken care over your presentation. Concert clothes or smart casual are both fine.

11. If you are recording on a phone, switch on aeroplane mode or turn off notifications, so that nothing interrupts your performance.

12. Please don't leave your recording until the last minute. You may need to record the piece several times before you have a performance you are happy with, and entries close at 11.59pm Sydney time (AEDT) on 31 October 2026.
