2024 RULES (Terms & Conditions)

Entries open on 4th September 2024 (AEST) and entries must be received by 30th October 2024 at 11:59pm (AEDT). Late submissions will not be accepted.

Each entrant must record themselves playing ONE piece on flute from the SET REPERTOIRE for the section they are entering. The video must be in one take and have NO EDITING* or enhancements*. At the start of the video, entrants should announce their first name, the title of the piece they will play and show the front cover of the book before starting their performance. Photocopies are not permitted; digital purchasers should show the front cover on the screen of their device or the printed front cover. (*The only section where the video may be edited is the Creative Presentation section. The soundtrack must be in one take and NOT be edited, but the visuals may be edited or enhanced.)

For Flute & Piano sections, entrants must record their piece either with a live accompanist or with the recorded backing tracks, which are available to stream free on The Young Flute Player YouTube channel OR for download purchase. It is acceptable to have the metronome count in if you are using the backing tracks.

There is no entry fee, but EACH ENTRANT IS REQUESTED TO PURCHASE THEIR OWN BOOK FROM WHICH THEIR PERFORMANCE PIECE COMES. If the entrant is using a digital PDF, they are requested to include proof of purchase with their email entry (i.e. one entrant per purchase, unless siblings). NO PHOTOCOPIES ALLOWED except for page turns in longer pieces.

Each entrant must submit their video link on the official entry form. Please use a separate form per section if you are entering more than one section. Videos must be uploaded to YouTube and the video must be kept as “UNLISTED” (not private) on YouTube until after the results of the competition are announced. For instructions on how to upload your video, please see the competition information page. Please also send a copy of your original video (via WeTransfer, Dropbox or similar) to info@allegromusicpublishing.com

Entrants are responsible for checking their entry has been received; you will be sent an email acknowledging acceptance of your entry within 3 days. If you do not receive this, please email info@allegromusicpublishing.com or submit the contact form .

Entry is open to flute players of all ages and from all countries, however professional players are not eligible (a person who derives the major part of their income from flute performance).

All ages are as of 30th October 2024.

Each entrant may enter a maximum of 2 solo sections (Age Championship, Unaccompanied Solo, Creative Presentation) plus 1 ensemble section, but they must perform different music for each section. Please use a separate entry form for each section. Ensembles should enter the name of each performer if it is a duet or trio, or the name of the group if a flute choir is performing.

Please check the sections available for your age group. Age Championship sections are for Flute & Piano performances. There is also one Unaccompanied Solo Championship, the Creative Presentation Championship and one Ensemble Championship.

The organizers reserve the right to cancel any section with insufficient entries, or to add extra age group sections, or to appoint an extra judge(s) if the number of entries exceeds previous years.

The judges reserve the right to not award all prizes if the standard is deemed inadequate.

The judges’ decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the adjudication.

The winners will be announced on 22nd November 2024 on the Allegro Music Publishing website, on Facebook at Allegro Music Publishing page (@allegropublishing) and Instagram @theyoungfluteplayer and the winners will also be notified by email.

Prizes will be in the form of a voucher to spend at selected music retailers worldwide. The prizes are non-transferable and may not be exchanged for cash.

Entrants grant Allegro Publishing, Karen North, and The Young Flute Player the right to use their videos for promotional purposes, including but not restricted to newsletters, website, and social media.​
