2026 LYRICAL FLUTE
INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

2026 RULES (Terms & Conditions)
-
Entries open on 2 September 2026 and close on 31 October 2026 at 11.59pm Sydney time (AEDT). Late submissions will not be accepted.
-
Each entrant must record themselves playing ONE piece from the SET REPERTOIRE for the section they are entering. The video must be in one take and have NO EDITING or enhancements*. (*The only section where the video may be edited is the Creative Presentation section. The soundtrack must be in one take and NOT be edited, but the visuals may be edited or enhanced.)
-
At the start of the video, entrants should announce their first name and the title of the piece, and show the front cover of the book, then start their performance. (If the entrant prefers not to speak on the video, please send a separate photo of them with their book instead. Digital purchasers do not need to show the cover but should send a copy of their purchase invoice.)
-
For Flute & Piano sections (or Clarinet & Piano), entrants must record their piece either with a live accompanist or with the recorded backing tracks, which are available to stream free on The Young Flute Player YouTube channel or to purchase as downloads. It is acceptable to include the metronome count-in if you are using the backing tracks. Clarinet backing tracks are available on The Young Instrumentalist YouTube channel.
-
There is no entry fee, but EACH ENTRANT MUST HAVE THEIR OWN LEGALLY PURCHASED BOOK OR PDF FROM WHICH THEIR PERFORMANCE PIECE COMES. Teachers, please do not give students copies of your book. Please ask each student to purchase their own physical book or PDF.
-
If the entrant is using a digital PDF, they are requested to email proof of purchase at the time of their entry (i.e. one purchase per entrant, except where siblings are sharing). NO PHOTOCOPIES ALLOWED except for page turns in longer pieces.
-
Uploading your video:
-
Please upload your video to the Dropbox link on the ENTRY FORM (see instructions at the link).
-
Then please upload your video to YouTube as UNLISTED (not "private") and paste the link where required on the entry form. If you are not able to upload to YouTube, Dropbox alone is acceptable, but a YouTube link is appreciated as it assists the judging. The video must be kept as UNLISTED on YouTube until after the results of the competition are announced. Please do not share your video on social media (including private accounts) until the results of the competition are announced. Please see how to upload your video.
-
-
Entrants are responsible for checking that their entry has been received; you will be sent an email acknowledging acceptance of your entry within 3 days. If you do not receive this, please submit the contact form.

Age is calculated as at 31 October 2026.
-
Each player may enter a maximum of 3 sections (any combination of the Age Championship, Unaccompanied Solo, Creative Presentation, Ensemble - Duet/Trio, Ensemble - Flute Choir and Clarinet & Saxophone Championship), but they must perform different music for each section. Please use a separate entry form for each section. Ensembles should enter the name of each performer if it is a duet or trio, or the name of the group if a larger ensemble is performing.
-
Please check the sections available for your age group. Age Championship sections are for Flute & Piano performances. There is also one Unaccompanied Solo Championship, the Creative Presentation Championship, the Ensemble Championship (Duet/Trio and Flute Choir) and the Clarinet & Saxophone Championship.

The organisers reserve the right to cancel any section with insufficient entries, or to add extra age group sections, or to appoint additional judges if needed.

The judges reserve the right not to award all prizes if the standard is deemed inadequate, or if there are insufficient entries in a section.
-
The judges' decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the adjudication.
